  • The Bel Canto DAC3.5VB MkII's musical performance rests on the solid foundation of the Master Reference Ultra-Clock. The Master Reference Ultra-Clock provides jitter performance 50x better than other clocks. Specifications of 2 picoseconds RMS and frequency accuracy of 0.0001% insure maximum dynamic range. The Master Reference Ultra-Clock circuit uses a new aggressive 2Hz jitter filter, insuring that any incoming jitter on the data inputs can not compromise the final analogue output signal quality.

The DAC3.5VB MkII has been optimised to provide the highest level of performance for all of these critical functions. It provides digital pre-amplifier as well as a D/A conversion and bridge from traditional CD or DVD player sources and from a USB Lightlink input for computer music playback sources.

All digital input sources experience two jitter rejection stages, one analogue PLL stage at the SPDIF input and a second 2Hz digital PLL stage that rolls off incoming jitter by more than 10X at 10Hz frequencies and greater than 10,000X at 100Hz. Any incoming jitter at frequencies above 10Hz is reduced to levels that have no effect on measured or sonic performance.

The combination of the VBS1, internal VB stage and the new jitter filtration provide an extremely well isolated environment for the DAC3.5VB digital to analogue stage. The final conversion to analogue is no longer subject to external noise and interference sources and the resulting purity and dynamic quality is uniquely musical and compelling.

The high dynamic range analogue input section provides 110db of dynamic range for any of your analogue sources - it can be connected to a PHONO3VB pre-amplifier for a complete system including a turntable source, or it can be configured as a home theatre bypass to integrate into a complete high performance system offering the best performance for your 2 channel sources.

The dual-differential multi-bit delta-sigma DAC circuit achieves remarkable analogue performance. The 5.5VRMS true balanced XLR outputs provide 126db of dynamic range. The noise floor of this DAC/processor is so low and so clean the the DAC3.5VB MkII is optimally used as a complete DAC/Pre-Amplifier with digital level control.

Because of dither applied to the 24 bit word there is no loss of effective resolution. The application of optimised dither insures that the analogue output noise floor maintains a clean sound, devoid of any tones or artifacts. The DAC3.5VB MkII can provide an optimum solution with the addition of a Bel Canto e.One Amplifier, eliminating the need for a pre-amplifier.

Bel Canto e.One DAC3.5VB MkII DAC Control Center Reviews

Stereophile
"The Goldilocks DAC in this shoot-out (Weiss DAC202 and dCS Debussy) was Bel Canto’s e.One DAC3.5VB. It combined the honesty and resolution of the dCS Debussy with the soul of the Weiss DAC202. In terms of dynamics, the Bel Canto was as gripping as the dCS ... The Bel Canto, in my opinion, bested the dCS in terms of my involvement in the stereo image: through the DAC3.5VB, backgrounds were blacker, and instruments hung in greater 3D relief in the soundstage. I found the Bel Canto’s tonal balance and slightly warmer sound to be a tad more musically rewarding than the Debussy’s. And while the Weiss’s tonal balance was sweeter still, the Bel Canto made up for it with grain-free clarity and impeccable delineation in the treble. I was shocked and happy that, of these three DACs, I liked the cheapest best. Though the Debussy and Weiss have received many accolades in the audio press, the Bel Canto e.One DAC3.5VB remains a relatively unsung hero. (Weiss DAC202 US$7,737, the Debussy US$10,999!)"

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Bel Canto's e.One DAC3.5VB. It does everything you might ever need a DAC to do, and I'd put its sound as being among the best I've heard. In fact, the only other digital sound I've enjoyed significantly more (in an environment I was familiar with) was when I heard the Meridian 808i.2 CD player ($16,995) at John Atkinson's house. Yes, I do think the e.One DAC3.5VB is good enough to stand comparison with a front-end of the Meridian's caliber and price. The Bel Canto's styling, build quality, and performance make it an obvious contender for Class A of our "Recommended Components," and one of the best D/A converters I've heard. And though I've heaped an embarrassing amount of praise on the e.One DAC3.5VB, I'm sure the good Minnesotans at Bel Canto won't let this review go to their heads. "

"...where the Ayre and Berkeley use a lot of DSP 'math' for their sound and, to wit, give you selectable filters to play through, the sound of the Bel Canto 3.5VB is what you get when you eliminate jitter and noise with extreme skill and religious zeal, and combine that with a great output stage...I'd sacrifice the subtle, beguiling midrange glow of the Ayre, and the slightly deeper, more 3D presentation of the Berkeley for the direct feed quality of the Bel Canto."
